Warren, I actually do play guitar, and I guarantee you I could pick up a bass and in days play anything Mudvayne writes, hell, even write stuff just as good. I can scream. I'm actually forming a band as we speak, and I will probably be the screaming guy in the background (it's kind of like Thursday, more punkish), and guitarist. You're right, I couldn't grunt like that guy in Mudvayne, I'd throw up after one concert.
I could do anything and more than anyone in Mudvayne (except for grunting, and the drummer). And as for heavy metal musicians being the best? Give me a break. I don't like hippy music but Phish is by FAR more talented than anyone in Mudvayne or Slipknot. The Weakerthans have more musical chemistry than Mudvayne, but that is of course a matter of opinion. To be the best out there, a band needs to try new things and cover new grounds. Wearing makeup and grunting into a mic is HARDLY new grounds. Kiss did that 30 years ago. On the punk scene, bands are crossing musical boundries. You can find completely different bands at the same concert. It's INNOVATION, a quality that Mudvayne does not seek.
I'm not saying no one can like Mudvayne, I respect Randall's msuical opinions, and what he likes. It's just when people say their favorite band is "the most talented out there." You personally have probably never heard real musical innovation, if you only listen to mainstream heavy metal or whatever. Mainstream bands have no innovation, they give what will attract the largest number of people, not what they really believe in. And don't say mudvayne believes in wearing makeup and grunting on stage.
Don't attack my credibility when you don't know me, I happen to be quite a talented musician, if I do say so myself
I respect that you like Mudvayne, that's cool. More power to you. Everyone should find a band that they love. You just don't have to defend it with your life.
