There is nothing wrong with Metal, especially if it is powerful and raw. White Zombie (Rob Zombies former band) simply kicks ass, and he hasn't let up since.

Metallicas "...and justice for all" was their last raw CD, unless "Garage Days" was after that, I don't remember. Now they are just a bunch of whiny ass sellout bitches, but I haven't boycotted their old stuff. Cliff Burton simply rooled, and Jason Newstead was wise to dump them a while ago- he was in it for the fans.

The record companies tend to screw up alot of otherwise good music. Case in point: Metallica. I don't think Linkin Park was as faggy as the record label pushed them to be. Now they are basically the "boy band" of pseudo-metal.

Alot of computer geeks listen to hardcore. Maybe it IS because they are introverted and gives them a sense of aggression and power. Or maybe not.

Yep, Paul... bitch me out for my analysis.

Sorry, I am like Moose (goddam it!). Music suits the mood and environment for me. Hell I even listen to NWA and Public Enemy in rare moments.

Sometimes I'll plug Beauty and Beast into my VCR, just to listen to the music. Little Mermaid is another good one. I think sticking to a specific type of music limits your outlook on life. Maybe some of us are too embarrassed to admit we like puss music. Maybe we need to start a new thread for music we are embarrassed to like.

Fat Boy Slim comes to mind. But I think most of that is due to the cool vid with Christopher Walken. Who the hell can deny that Miss Spears isn't at least "cute", even though her bubblegum Pop sucks ass.

I also think that Limp Bizkit sucks. They only are successful because MTV pushed them. It was all planned. Well, I guess that applies to a lot of bands.

A lot of my friends like Linkin Park, but I don't like their style. Opinion thing. P.O.D. is okay, but I'm sick of them, and have been ever since I played the "Rock the Party" music video on Pocket TV for the 15th time. This was before PocketDIVX, and before ScourExchange was shut down, but I think that I got the video legally...

Being in a band myself, I don't really like corporate rock. There are too many Creed copycats out there and Slipknot sucks, too. I don't know if Creed was the band that started it, but now a lot of "hit" songs sound like that. I think it's kind of dumb.

Korn is actually talented (gasp) and perhaps even a little original (bigger gasp), but I don't like their style, either. I am more of an underground hardcore guy, myself. Black metalcore is what it's all about.

Zao rox. Liberate Te Ex Inferis has gotta be my favorite album, but you probably never heard of Zao before. You would therefore have to call it underground (since it isn't mainstream), but that doesn't mean that it is a sucky album. Zao (has)/(has had) the best hardcore vocalists of any band I've ever heard. If you know who Underoath is, well, that's a sweet band, too.

Britney Spears isn't a musician, and probably not even a singer anymore. She's just a public whore. I think that it's pretty sick, myself. If I was her father, I would not have ever let her wear clothes like that. I mean, would you want your daughter to be basically the biggest slut in the world?

She is an adult, now, but she has been doing this teen-slut act for at least a few years, now. Isn't her dad like a Baptist preacher, or something?

KoRn and Rage have always been cool. (I heard Chris Cornell left already)

Speaking of Soungarden, they had soul. They really believed in what they were doing. I'm sure the money didn't hurt either. Creed appears to be "trying" to pick up where Pearl Jam left off- pffft nice friggin try.

Soundgarden and Pearl Jam started out as Mother Love Bone and Temple of the Dog. At that time, they were underground. If you look at their lineups, those bands crossed over seamlessly in songs like Hunger Strike where Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder share the vocals. Temple of the Dog only became known after Soundgarden and Pearl Jam hit it big.

I still think the bands, artists and music that spawned from the grunge/seattle sound era is among the best. Alice in Chains, Gruntruck, My Sisters Machine, Nirvana...

Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park are trying to capture what Anthrax/Public Enemy and Aerosmith/Run DMC pulled off years ago. Except the accomplishments of Anthrax and Aerosmith were naturally flowing without sounding like it was forced.

I know, boring history... sorry.

Possibly other artists I am embarrassed to admit:
Joe Jackson
Prince' old stuff
Michael Jackson

I'm a rocker too. Most "geeks" I know are either metal-heads or techno-freaks.

Bands I like to code to:

(Metal/Rock)
Tool
Queensryche
Stabbing Westward
Downer
Pantera
Rob Zombie
Six by Seven
WASP
Monster Magnet
Megadeth
Alice in Chains
Van Halen
Whitesnake
Prodigy
PWEI
Anthrax
Senser
Deftones
Metallica (pre Load/Reload)
Smashing Pumpkins (pre Ava Adore)
Paw
Spineshank
Machine Head
Therapy?
Scorpions

(Other)
Vangelis
New Order
Placebo
Stevie Nicks / Fleetwood Mac
The Wonderstuff
James (esp. the album(s) with Brian Eno)
Apocalyptica
Heather Nova

For me it's usually music that gets my blood pumping - anything with a kind of tribal/aggressive feeling gets my vote (though not Sepultura - I don't know why). :) I'll listen to whatever I'm in the mood for at a given time; if that includes "crap" music, then so be it :)

I agree with Randall on the Creed thing. They're bad Pearl Jam wannabes who produce boring middle-of-the-road dirge (like a lot of bands these days, it has to be said). Wasn't all that impressed with Chris Cornell's last album though.

I just don't "get" dance music. To me it's just repetetive junk that any 13 year old with a sampler could produce... but that's just my opinion.

Cheers,

Refractor

Damn Refractor, you must be as old as me. W.A.S.P, Megadeth, Alice, Anthrax.... OMG, WHITESNAKE and QUEENSRYCHE?

Yes, I forgot to mention Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac. I am not embarrassed to admit that.
