I'd guess this is just how Mac owners feel. They keep seeing what they feel are inferior products beat the pants off them in the market. That's the way the market is.
Pricing has a lot to do with and so does marketing. When people ask me for advice on a PDA, I'm honest about it. If all they want/need is an electronic rolodex, then by all means by a <$100 Palm, that's what they are for. When the PocketPC can compete at that price, I'll recommend it instead.
If Microsoft really went after the market we'd see a big change, but for some reason they are content to let go without big ad-blitz campaigns and price-slashing, things they've done in the past for other products.
Pocket PC Phone Edition has been around for a while but I've never seen a real product yet. When and if the integrated products start shipping, then I think we'll start seeing a growing market share again.
