Look at id's history, they are the ones that make the greatest leaps in gaming technology, yet each of those games at that time could still run on low end computers. Hell, even the computers we had at school, 166Mhz pieces of junk, could still run Quake III at 800x600 on high settings at 50fps. Plus, Doom III will be on the XBox, and if the XBox can play it, our computers certainly can too. You do however need an X800 or whatever if you want 1600x1200 with AA and AF and all that unnecessary yak, but all I want is 1024x768 with no AA or AF and on medium to high settings and get 30fps, which I'm pretty sure I can do. I run Unreal Tournament 2004 at 1400x1050, triplebuffering, super max settings, and still get 60fps (which is limited by vsync), and if I took vsync off, some maps (like my all time favorite one, Deck17 remade from the original Unreal) I get an average of 150fps. ArcticStronghold though, I get 25fps, but that one runs slow on all computers. It's all about the engine though, I'm playing Halo for PC right now that I'm borrowing from a friend, and Microsoft fucked it up so badly, I can only play it at 1024x768 on medium settings to squeeze out 25fps most of the time, and the graphics I think are poor! My friend's computer is similar to mine, a little lower, and he can barely get 15fps, so he has to play it at 640x480 just to get 30fps, and even then, it hiccups a lot. In the troubleshooting, the very first one says "Performance is slower than expected", and they're answer? "Sorry, but we fucked up and did a half fast job." id is not one to mess stuff up, lord knows how many hours they've put into this, so I'm not worried that I won't be able to play it, if anything, I'm worried if I can get a copy!
