This may very well be a cultural difference too. In America the media only considers what it prints valid if it finds direct fault with any authority, i.e. police, military, government, et. al. That may also explain why some of us get so offended when we have to hear it from people who don't live here.
Again, I personally believe the cops in the tube did the right thing.
