You have to try the new Q3F, I've been playing since it's very first release, and it's evolved greatly. Though whether this evolution is good or not some people are unsure about.

It's inevitable that id will release the Doom3 source. My guess is 2010 we'll see the Doom3 source code. At this rate we'll have Final Fantasy MXXXIV, and we'll still be waiting for Duke Nukem Forever...

On a semi-related note, it's too bad what happened to the Doom community didn't happen to the Quake/Quake2 community after the source release. Tons of source ports, all adding something, or several, very useful things, floors over floors, 512x512 textures, fantastic GL graphics, and QuakeWorld netcode (Only thing that saved me last summer, was csDoom and ZDaemon. 28.8KBPS AOL connection, would handle like cable on and up to 4 opponents) Quake has a couple source ports, but they're not something to write home about, and Quake II has almost zilch. Though Quake has the coolest hack, Augmented Reality Quake: http://wearables.unisa.edu.au/arquake/

I want that now :P

[edit] Neato, that was my 400th post. Just noticed that.

By the time were all old men, kids will be putting VR chips right in their brains. They will laugh at Quake 3, and say how primitive it is compared to their neuro VR killing. Could you imagine Massively Multiplayer Online Games being like mini The Matrixes? *Shudders at the thought of us all becoming like the Borg*
