If I get some time tonight I will encode a video using your settings at 320x240 and see how it runs. and then you can play it too, we will compare results.

Well, I just tried it now at 240x192 so that it could fit into portrait size and encoded it at 25fps and i finally got 25 fps, barely.
:)
In one sense, that makes me mad. In another, those settings for High quality portrait mode are 240x112, so mine is actually larger and still meets the 25fps. I'm just thinking maybe because I was trying to get these full screen at high bitrates ..and that prolly wasnt gonna work. let me know how your success is.

Movie trailers for d/l would be cool (and legal, right). But what about movie clips, is that ok?

My understanding is that we can distibute clips of movies and music videos so long as they are under one minute. But I would like to hear from a lawyer about that.

really? one minute... i suppose theres a law against splitting a film into 120 files and playing them seamlessly... somehow?

I would imagine there is. I think you could still get some funny stuff into one minute. We will have to find out for sure on this one before we start doing it though.

I have not personally got divx working, but chris has and he said its pretty good. How big your enterpise collection would be depends on the quality settings you use, and the length of all of them put toghether.

okay, i've got one of the trailers - the size is something like 320x240 and its in mpeg1 - 2.14mb for 10 seconds.

i want it to look almost as good i suppose... whats good settings for that? i think i can get a 128mb card which i know is a little on the small size but its not a full film - just one episode at a time is fine with me.

Half the battle is optimization v. quality. Unfortunately unless you have REALLY good software, its tough to do...
