Don't even think about getting the XPS for school.

You'd have to carry that thing around! Start looking for something that's under 5 pounds.

That thing is awesome.

hmm...yah the XPS is pretty heavy. Those lifebook systems look pretty nice, but they dont really have everything that I need/want. Here is the Mimimum system requirements for the system i need. These are put out by the college for anyone entering any computer degree's.

Hardware and Operating System Requirements (minimum):
• Intel® Pentium® M processor 1.4GHz
• 14.1" XGA TFT Active Matrix Display
• SVGA/XGA Video Adapter
• 512MB Memory (more is recommended)
• 40GB Hard Drive (more is recommended)
• Integrated 24x/10x/24x CD-RW / 8x DVD combo
• Integrated 10/100 Ethernet adapter
• Integrated 802.11b/g wireless network adapter
• Keyboard and Pointing Device
• Integrated sound and stereo speakers, headphone/speaker jack, and microphone jacks
• Lithium ion battery with AC pack (extra battery recommended)
• Integrated V.92 56K modem
• Carrying Case
• Extended Service Plan
• Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional - available at a substantial educational discount at our College Store.

I will probably go higher then the minimum - 80GB HDD, and 1GB Ram.

The IBM probably isn't an option for you unless you have an unlimited budget. I ordered mine through my dad's work and so got a huge discount. The computer I have would actually run me around $3,300.

These Tablets will be awesome. They use the new 64bit AMD Mobile chips. Really inexpensive, too, and super fast.
