Use konspose as I doubt you need to see the weather at all times (I use konspose, very handy). And come on...do you really need to see your buddly list at all times?

Ohh and I just checked with safari not maxed out, and ummm its not that wide at all, the scrollbar on the bottom barely moves anything around. Ohh and im on an ibook right now too btw
