Alright, so I'm starting to think about buying a mac for college. Here's the configuration I have so far:

15" Powerbook G4 1.5GHz
512MB SDRAM
80GB Ultra ATA drive (4200 rpm)
SuperDrive
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card
AppleCare Enrollment Kit (3 year warranty)

$2925.00
-$587.00 discount
------------------
$2248.00

Now, my question is, should I upgrade the graphics card to 128MB for $90? What about upgrading the HD speed to 5400 rpm for $45?

Please tell me you won't be playing games on this. I don't think you will so I wouldn't upgrade the video card. I would upgrade the rpm on that hard drive though, 4500 rpm is incredibly slow.

I would say ABSOLUTELY upgrade the hard drive, mine is 7200 rpm (it's a laptop one...), and a friend has the same brand and size, yet 5400 rpm, and mine load games and everything MUCH faster than his.

I'd say upgrade the harddrive most definitely, downgrade the graphics card, and double the RAM.

the big thing i hear is to have a shit ton of ram with any mac. personally i only have 512mb on mine and a slow hardrive and it runs perfect. I also only have an ibook, but you know it depends on what you're using it for mostly.
