Sandy: "No, the Quran is not an evil book."
Sandy: "Islam is not evil. Islamism is."
Dictionary.com: Islamism is "an Islamic revivalist movement, often characterized by moral conservatism, literalism, and the attempt to implement Islamic values in all spheres of life."
You're stating that Islamic literalism (in reference to the Quran) is evil. You're stating that literal translation of the Quran (which leads to "moral conservatism" and is derived from a desire by the pious "to implement Islamic values in all spheres of life") is evil, but the book itself is not? Given a book does not have the capacity to be willfully good or evil, it can still preach evil ideas. Which it does.
The cuddly Islam touted by some is not Islam. Just as many Americans call themselves Christians when they're really not. You can get a million ducks together and call them geese, but that's not going to change the fact that they're ducks.
