Mandrake and Win98

Ok guys.  I just d/l the latest Mandrake and have Partition magic 6.  How would I do this.  I haven't done it this way before and I'm doing this at my work.  Do just partition the space needed for Mandrake and just reboot and pop the cd in for Mandrake and it will take care the rest?

Well, other than the fact that you have to choose the partition to install to somewhere in there......But then, I've never used Mandrake either. Why Mandrake?

Well, I have Red Hat also, but when using both Distro's, Mandrake seem a lil bit more fun to use.  I just wanna put Linux on my work comp, cause I'm kind of bored, but don't wanna blow the whole machine a way.

Aaah. Well, I never had a problem with putting RedHat or Debian on a 2nd partition that had Win98 and/or WinMe on the 1st. You just gotta create the partition in your Win98 beforehand. And that can take a little while. Especially if you haven't defragged in a long time. Thats the drag though if you want to keep your current data and setup a 2nd Partition. Once it's made, I recommend never removing it even if you remove Linux b/c the wait is just too horrible. Don't plan on using the computer then b/c it'll have to reboot into DOS to complete the formatting. I'm only so negative about it b/c I needed to check my email one day and the computer setup with it was being partitioned...like a watched kettle never boils.

If you have lots of free space on the first partition, you could just resize the end of it. then you would room to put another partition in.

Ok, But once I do that, I wouldn't need to do any special right.  I have put in a dual OS from scratch, but not when I already have a full partition to Win98 or you say the whole partition is in Fat32.

Well, yeah if you have lotsa free space u could resize your current partition, but if yer data is fragged all over the place on it..it wont be a quick snap.<br>Once u make a 2nd partition, raven, then it should be pretty easy using the linux's installation to put that OS onto that partition. It can usually reformat the partition if its still in say..Fat32 or something. But yeah, u will need to create a new partition from your existing win98 one using PartitionMagic.<br><br>

if i were you, i would format the linux partition as reiserFS when you are in mandrake setup. just leave it as fat32 or unformatted for now.<br><br>when you go into setup, select expert install. then it will give you a partitioning tool. then format your linux partition using ReiserFS. It's really fast and better then ext2 or fat32.

Thanx JongJungBu.  Finally gets to play with Linux on my free time.  Hey, is there any browsers besides Netscape I can use.  Some how, Netscape doesn't handle authentication to Microsoft Windows NT domains correctly.

That's probably because you have the "Make this browser suck" feature enabled. Disable it and everything should be okay. ~<br><br>Sorry, Netscape isn't that bad... It's just a pain in the ass to make a website compatible with Netscape and IE.

Randall, Yup...you got that right.  That's y I started to make Flash websites.  If both browsers can't handle that right.  Then there's something wrong.

What I usually do is hook up one of my older hard drives and just set it up as a pure linux partition. But when I installed Mandrake on my computer it had a partition phase in the install processes. That partition pahse used a built in Partition Magic, and let me choose exactly where the linux partition should begin and end. I just popped the disk in while in Windows and it autoran, I clicked Install. Walla walla bing bang.

I dunno about the browser problem, raven. Does it have something to do with the fact that you've got a non-Windows OS trying to log into a Windows NT domain?  I thought you needed like, some kind of NFS software or something in order to move through the TCP/IP stack?

Well, What's happening is our company has a website with private informations.  The handle is from a WinNT domain so, Netscape some how doen't recognize this and it will come up with no authorization.
