Do Hitachi make good DVD-rom players?
If not who make the good ones?

...and is there a DivX-encoder which can encode straight from the DVD, because I have so little space left on my HD, that I wouldn't be able to save the entire movie uncompressed on my HD and then compress it.

I like my Toshiba DVD player. They make the faster speed player yet for the computer. I believe 16x, but I'm not sure. 40x cd read is nice too.
But it does get hot, but I think any DVD player would get hot when it's constantly spinning a disk, shooting a blue laser at it trying to refract photon particles back into the device to read a 1 or 0. What do you think?

Yes, Pioneer slot loader is the best. THat's the one I have :-P. But it's substantially more expensive then the tray loader.
