Here's a question for you Brits. I'm watching one of those "car chase" shows, and in Britain the cameras in the police cars show the MPH they are travelling at. Is your mile the same as a US mile? Because it sure looks like they are going a lot slower than what they would be using our MPH.

Dan East

Seriuosly, the metric system isn't universal yet because of you yanks. But in some time it will be standart all over the world.

Why couldn't KPH stand for Kilometers Per Hour instead?

The right way to "spell" is km/h.

Well, for kilograms, it's kg not k.
Though kg/h makes a lot less sense for KPH than km/h.
Well, if your getting fat REAL fast maybe kg/h could make since. I wonder how many pies you'll have to eat to get there...

Well ya know what's ironic is that us "Yanks" officially adopted the metric system back in the 60's. Congress passed a bill making metric the measuring standard in the U.S. - it just hasn't taken hold. Too many people resist it (even engineers, believe it or not).

It's amazing to me, really. The English system is natural for us, but far more difficult to understand. Lead the way, Brits. Lead us into metric salvation.

Yep, I'll be the first to admit the current system sucks ass. Inches/feet/yards/miles is completely retarded.

I have never used fractions when doing design work. I learned to convert everything to decimal. It is so much easier to type 3.38 inches (3.375 accurate but it is rare to need that kind of precision) than it is to type 3 1/8 .

Numbers like 8 7/16 + 4 7/8 look really confusing when typed- whereas 8.45 + 4.88 is a little more digestible.

It is also FAR easier to add decimals.

Is it all of Europe that uses a comma instead of decimal, like-
4,5 DM instead of $4.50 ?
