GPS down?

Does anybody own a GPS device? Yesterday mine couldn't get a reading, and today the best accuracy I got was 23m (normally I get 9m). I was wondering if it's this way everywhere, or the US military degraded the signal (SA) only in some areas.

I use it to travel with my Shadow. Sometimes for trekking, too.

How do they do that? And why? To find out where you are?

Actually, my GPS accuracy is low because of a old US army law. For "security reasons", yeah.

and no, they cant track the device because it doesnt emit any signals to the satelites. It only gets info from the satelites.

Paul, do you know what a GPS device is?
It's a reciever unit that can triangulate your location (your coordinates) by using the time of delay between signals recieved from three or more satelites. It's a reciever, so the goverment can't track you.
And FYI, Shadow is a motorcycle that exists in England, too.

Diego, mine is a 12 channel unit. The SA was lifted in 1998 (if I'm not mistaken), and you can get from 5 to 7m of accuracy (depending on the angle of the satelites overhead in relation to your position). With the mess of yesterday, the military degraded the accuracy of the satelites, so now is not a good time to test it.

I tested mine today (12 channel), when I saw the thread. I was getting the usual 50 meters calculated error
