Finally i live in a rual california town wich hasnt had brodband access until like last month. First DSL came but i was out of reach . But now cable is here and im having it installed tommrow!! This will be awseome no more cheap 56k for me !!!

After you get high speed, you can tweak it to make it faster:)<br><br>go to www.speedguide.net and download some of their speed patches. My friend has his cable modem tweaked, and he is getting speeds at or higher than a T1.

i tweaked my dsl, and now i get a whopping 60k/s. dont burst out in amazement. take it slowly, you'll come to grips with my ligghtning fast download speeds.

I wish DSL was more "tweakable" but I think its capped at about 60k/sec no matter what. Cable is pretty flexible though.

cable is infinately better in the long run...I think you will see the death of DSL soon enough.  Rhode Island, where I am from, hence the name (RI)Coder, is ALL fiber...MUHAHAH!  As a result, the cable system is even better prepared for high-speed access.  The idea of shooting bits across copper designed for analog conversations is just kinda silly.  I mean, you can enhance and play all you want, but eventually you have to make a switch to a new medium.

I just check ed yesterday and I'm 27450 ft frrom the CO.  My cable can get up to 1700 Kbps though. 2wire.com has a bandwidth meter that I use to check.  What does y'all yuse to check throughput ?

I usually go to download.com at the bottom is a link to bandwith meter. The only one I had known about.

Sometimes from a really good server I can download at 140k/sec via DSL.

MY friend has 1.5mb DSL and its zippy ill tell you he d/ls at 220k a sec average. I really wish i could get that my friend that got cable before me said he d/ls at an average of about 100k a sec. Is this fast for cable?

thats better than our college connection. i got 70k once but there were others on there too.

I'm on @home cable in Santa Monica. Their specs say 3.2mbps download and 128kbps upload. I hate those assholes with their mbps/mbs kbps/kps tricks.<br><br>3.2mbps = 409.6kps download ( I usually do around 350 on good sites )<br><br>128kbps = 16kps upload @#!$ ( SLOW!!!!)
