Ok, I am doing a persuasive speech for my speech class. My topic is artificial intelligence, like giving machines the ability to think and perfrom complex task on their own, along with learning. I need to argue both the pros and cons of giving the robots these abilities. Any Help?

Think of the cons first. It's a lot easier to sell an idea if you already have figured out what are it's problem.<br>Just for clarification: in your speech you have to convice people taht AI is good for everybody or you're just going to comment on the subject?

Do you want any 'techy' information?  This is sorta my area of expertise, having written more than one expert system, as well as exact and semi-inexact inference engines.<br><br>I suppose it would help you in your efforts to have a grasp of exactly what is possible and what is not.<br><br>You could go to and read his stuff.  He's a bit 'over-the-top' in his concepts of our inevitable impact with a singularity, but there is bucku information on AI there.<br><br>I suppose you could also do some information on AL as well, such as the Boids experiment and closed-loop systems...

Make it a satirical speech.  You'll have everyone by the balls and you'll get an A. My first speech was titled How to rob a bank. My hook was a big chest bomb. :p

I think Matt explicitly said it was supposed to be a persuasive speech.  That would disqualify sarcasm and satire.

Satire: a literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn.<br><br>Consider that if one were to try to persuade another to do, or believe, a certain thing, that they must convince that other of the virtue in such a thing.  By its nature satire is derogatory, and best served as convincing a person to do the opposite of what it represents.

The robots could rebels against the humans, robots are better equipped for the environment than us because they don't eat, sleep, poop, or anything, all they need is a battery.

My speech is supposed to be 8-10 minutes, In that time I need to talk about both the pros and cons of AI, but also choose which side I believe and try to convince others to agree. Does anyone remember the .BAS program ALICE ?  Boy, the memories...  <br><br>If complex machines/computers had intelligence and were prolific enough, a utopian society could emerge where work and economy are put aside for goals and ideas;  All goods and services we consume for the most part could be performed or offered by Machines with AI.  Instead of the market pushing Research and Development, the speed of Moore's law combined with the speed of technology in that day would make a powerful function, propelling the possibilites to endless bounds.  The cons: Check out the Matrix dude!<br><br>I don't want no spidery insectoid contraption ripping through the hull of my Nebuchadnezzar!   Sheesh!
