some have been saying that the oscars were rigged this year - 3 black people winning and everything.

personally i dont like washington anyway and halle berry isnt exactly the best actress in the world but sidney poitiers brilliant so hes okay.

on rottentomatoes.com they're saying what with whoopi throwing in a million black jokes and having poitier win the award too it seemed a little dodgy, like the academy is trying to prove it isnt racist.

what do you think?

Yeah, the Oscar's must've been rigged if 3 black people managed to win an award. Because that could never be possible... ~

I really don't think that such a major event such as the Oscars would be rigged, just to prove that they weren't racist. It's understandable for someone to think that a certain actor shouldn't have won an award, but i have never met a single person who agreed with every nomination & award in that year's Oscar ceremony. Besides, actors often get awards which takes into account their previous performances. Many people think that Denzel was deserving of an award for 'Malcolm X', 'Hurricane', etc and so this may be just desserts.

Just when you think the world is going forward, people seem to still read racism into things. I seriously think that these people who are arguing that the Oscars were rigged are probably racially prejudiced themselves (although they may not actually realise it or admit it).

I didn't say it doesn't happen. It does happen and that's why it's so dumb!

personally I don't really think it was rigged in the sense that three talented black actors won some of the top awards. I just feel that the entire operation is pretty much a joke. If anyone had paid attention Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulaindeserved to come away with something. I believe that the academy is a farce and does little to recognize some truly amazing films, and hands out their little golden men for the sake of popularity.
