In America the teachers ARE your parents. En Loco Parentis, in place of the parent. But rules are there for a disruptive student, not a kid that's eagerly using all available resources to better his or her grade in school. You were not using it for games when the teacher took it away, any type of principal should understand enough to atleast give it back to you after agreeing with your parents to make sure you don't bring it back in. I asked an administrator at my school about this before I brought in my PocketPC so I was more or less exempt from it being taken away. If a teacher did take it away I had a perfect reason from someone in higher authority than the teacher. It's all just depends on the way you talk it out with the person in charge. Don't take them to court over it. If laws are anything like they are in America you'd be laughed out of the building. Just talk it over reasonably with the principal, with your parents with you, and then go see the teacher afterwards, apologize, tell her you were only taking notes and would never disrespect her by playing games in class, then assure her that you won't bring it in again without asking her first.
