I weep for the future:

There's a sample of the questions on the science test. Give it a go and then be amazed at how many students missed something so simple.

Warning!! Do not read this if you have not taken the test and you want to, as it contains answers!!

Score 78%
Missed Questions: 5 and 6
On 5 I put "high pressure" instead of "low pressure."
And on 6 I said "because of the earths gravity," instead of, "because of friction."

I got all of the 4th and 12th grade questions right, but as I remember, I goofed off alot in 8th grade. So thats probably why I failed.

Wow I am impressed with the scores here. You guys must have been good students in school. As for myself, well, I need to whip out that handy science answer book that I bought a few months ago. Hey, have any of you ever taken an IQ test? I did one time and by the results of my test scores I have an IQ in the 130s. If I remember right, average IQ is in the 90s. And I think the IQ of a Genius is in the 150s or higher.

okay, i'll be the stupid one and admit that i got 6/9 or 67% correctly. i got one of each of the grade levels wrong, and i'm in 17th grade, i guess. Then again, I took as little science classes as I could i highschool and college

... and um, those questions and answers were worded in such a way, as to piss people off, but i understood completely the mistake i made, after i relaized that they were the incorrect answers.

oh and those national results mean nothing, they just mean that with the huge increase in population, we also have a huge increase in stupid people. thats been a growing trend since people were invented.

"Thanks for taking our quiz. You answered 89% of the questions correctly."

8/9 for those who can't figure out how many I missed.

I goofed off entirely through Junior High and High School, and its been well over decade since.

I'll add my score here: 56 %. In my defense, Dutch education sucks; i've had only one year of basic physics/biology/chemistry, plus English isn't my native language.

The ones I missed:

2. Beans and coal both have stored energy. Where did the energy come from that is stored in beans and coal?
c. From the heat in the Earth's core. is not correct. The correct answer is:
b. From the Sun's light.
33 percent of students answered correctly.

I though since coal was mined, sunlight was incorrect. Shows what I know...

4. The Earth's Moon is
d. Sometimes closer to the Sun than it is to the Earth and sometimes closer to the Earth than it is to the Sun. is not correct. The correct answer is:
b. Always much closer to the Earth than it is to the Sun.
49 percent of students answered correctly.

I need more caffeine... I obviously know the sun is allways further out; I just didn't pay attention.

6. To keep a heavy box sliding across a carpeted floor at constant speed, a person must continually exert a force on the box. This force is used primarily to overcome which of the following forces?
d. The gravitational force exerted by the Earth on the box. is not correct. The correct answer is:
c. The frictional force exerted by the floor of the box.
52 percent of students answered correctly.

I thought the floor was tilted, therefore gravity exerts force on the box. Obviously, I missed the fact that the box wasn't been lifted up, but was sliding.

9. A 10-liter sample of CO2 gas contains the same number of molecules as how many liters of O2 gas at the same temperature and pressure?
a. 5 liters is not correct. The correct answer is:
b. 10 liters.
36 percent of students answered correctly.

Like I said, I had one year of chemistry. If I remember, CO2 means one carbon, two oxygen molecules, so if one has sets of three, and the other sets of two, then obviously, the container couldn't hold as many sets. I was obviously wrong.

So for me what it comes down to is: I don't pay as much attention [because I know this doesn't mean anything like a grade] And although I have a basic grasp of physics and chemistry, I lack the knowledge to adequately apply it.
