Hi, just putting out food for thought.

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel better about PPC gaming now that the Japanese developers are stepping up to the plate?

The latest games unearthed are quite a display of the different tastes in design. I quite fancy it, and if this is any indication of what's to come, things are beginning to look a lot brighter on the PPC game front.
They wouldn't make a game like that that wouldn't run at a playable speed, and for a racing game that is 35+ FPS. I told you guys that Need For Speed could have been easily ported!

If this game is anything like Ridge Racer (1) or even Daytona USA, I'll be in heaven.

It's all about drifting, and nobody ever got that right except for Namco in the Ridge Series (minus Rage Racer which was more SIM, a bad move IMHO), and AM2's Daytona USA. Those drifts ruled!

*Crossing Fingers*

Last modification: 999 - 04/26/01 at 16:10:52

I loved Rage Racer, for the almost RPG aspects of the game... upgrading, buying stuff on your own... (I loved, and I'm sure Fank did too, the ability to put your own custom logo on the car, but I do agree that the drifting just wasn't there...), but then R4 did away w/ the rpg aspect in sacrifice for the control... why can't they just have both?

Hah, Jay, actually, yea I did love that part
Namco used my a logo of mine in thier ad as an example of the custom mapping feature

Aside from totally souping the hell outta that little Lupin the IIIrd car, I really didn't like the road mechanics.

It's easy to see why they dropped that drift engine, but in it's defense, it's still better than Gran Turismo's. The Ridge Series has always been my sort of game, from the attention to detail, enthralling music (RARE HERO!!!), and super polished drift engine which was only complimented by perhaps one of the best race courses ever laid down in a poly world.

Anyone out there know the reverse 360 drift technique? You can litterally take a turn spining the opposite direction, and come out perfectly. Another cool trick was to use your drifts as a speed multiplier. It's possible to get the Solvalou cars up to 30kmh faster than their stats thanks to their poor grip (great for drifts).

BTW- some other cool little logos we came up with in the office:
RageRaper
RapeRacer
RapeRager
;)
We snuck those into our preview shots of the import at the time. Gotta love the golden ages of VideoGame publications, "Jap Bastards"... Oy, we lost namco for alost 2 years after that misprint.

See, what you have to understand is that 999 is actually in the position of God or demi-God status in the videogame world and he can do whatever he wants.

.. well, not really, but still that would be fun. 999 is actually in the gaming industry and does stuff like designs stuff for stuff and stuff, like strategy guides. lucky bastard....

I worked at a magazine back in the day, when Games was good (if u'r a console cross-over user like me).

Namco happened to see our custom logos in our Rage Racer import preview. In a feeble attempt to make their own ad campaign look good, they asked if we would be so kind as to share the screenshots. Of course we weren't thinking we just gave them free work at the time :| Oh well, it was cool anyway.

I'll be attending E3 this year under the Prima Games badge, anyone else goin' and want to meet up?

You worked at GameFan, right? That magazine was my god for about a year. I bought back issues, new issues, double issues. It was amazing.
