Stupid math teacher

My math teacher always illudes to programming (calc specific usually) when talking about the topic. He knows that only 2 people in his class have ever even attemped to program, but he still does it. Often his examples are wrong though (i.e. he states outdated information that changed when the univac became outdated, or a year or two later). Today he said one of those statements, and I decided to speak my opinion on why he was wrong, big mistake .

"It is ALWAYS faster to program with fewer lines than it would be to program with more lines. blah blah blah"

My comment

"You are wrong. There are many times when a task can be completed much quicker, even though more lines are used. An example would be taking the sine of a number. It is much faster to use a look-up table, taking several lines of code, than simply use the built in sin() that is on the 83plus rom. The difference in speed, can mean the difference between a 1 sec complex calculation, and a 5 sec complex calculation for the same equation depending on how many times sin, cos, ect. function are called."

His rebuttal

"That is completely incorrect. In college, we had to take serveral programming courses."

My final rebuttal

"In college you used punch cards to program." (Actually, he looked very flustered, so I didn't say that last thing, and instead said ok).

Moral of the story, don't try to piss a math teacher off in an intellectual battle. The hot girls in the class will think you are strange.

That's nothing compared to my teacher... she's been teaching Pre-Algebra Accelerated at my school (Bishop's; it's an Episcopalean private Junior High/High School in Southern CA) for about 30 years. She always yells at us and likes to make people feel really bad by making a big deal of their mistakes :(. What's really funny, though, is that she's starting to get senile. According to her, she's "a little over 16", but she's been teaching for "about 30 years". However, she's also stated that she's been teaching for "a zillion years". Not to mention that when she was showing us about how long the room was (oh no... such a hard task :)), she claimed that each foot was about 6 inches, so the two of them together was a foot (the measurement). Then she proceded to take steps while counting. She counted the first foot all right, with two of her feet. Then, with each step, she would count another foot. If you don't follow me, that would mean that 2 of her so-called feet was actually 1 1/2 feet, then 3 of her feet were actually 2 feet, etc.

Thank god the year's almost over!
