Duh it's on Kazaa, but even the larger file sizes are pretty low res and high artifact. Still very enjoyable, but not as good as DVD.

Info about the series.

Nah, I just finished downloading the first four episodes and have been watching them one after another. But you have to watch the first four episodes together. It's just a REALLY cool and funny high school love story.

You're probably the reason I'm queued on the download of them right now as a matter of fact :). I'm sure they've got them on irc too. Ask around on #soldats @ irc.dal.net (that's not a bad irc channel, it's a fansub site of anime that has not yet been licensed anywhere but Japan, so there are no laws about it, Matt). I can't get on IRC right now, I don't have my gateway set up for it, so I can't check.

I'll probably buy the DVDs just because it's such a cool anime, and I want a high quality version :P

Slightly on topic, these would be perfect for the PocketPC because they're 352x240 and a low bitrate :D

I've got a 33MB opening sequence to the Cowboy Bebop Movie anime, which used to be my favorite anime up until now. It's about Bounty Hunters in the distant future and it's really very cool. High action, intelligent, even an emotional story. It's about 6 and a half minutes long.

Oh, and paul, there are about triple the results under "Kare Kano", that's it's popular name.

There was this one kid in my school I always used to joke around with. He was kind of the popular guy as much as one could be in my highschool. But whenever I sat next to him or he said something he and I were always confrontational, I was just doing it as a joke, you know. Little me being confrontational to the popular extremely tall (but skinny) football player (he was the kicker). But apparently he wasn't joking around. I think that's the same situation Paul and I have. My jokes just go out of hand most of the time. :(

Noir: Very cool. Two female assassins kill people for hire. Cool guns, sexy women, fast hot action, great animation.

Cowboy Bebop: Set in the distant future, two bounter hunters on the space ship Bebop track down criminals. Fast and exciting action, cool martial arts, SUPERB animation and the BEST music (composed by Yoko Kanno, the guy for anime soundtracks), mostly a Jazzy or Blues theme, but quite a variety throughout. It was and still is the premiere anime cartoon in Japan today, started in 1998 with a full motion big screen picture to boot of 'epic' proportions. (I have the 6 minute intro to that if you want to see what it's like. The intro shows off the best of the entire series in under 4 minutes with some amazing lifelike animation during the opening credits. Email me and I'll send it over)

Neon Genesis Evangelion: The not so distant future. Alien creatures known only as "Angels" have begun mercilously attacking the earth. Humanity's last hope lies in a secret government project known as the "Evangelions." The only person able to pilot these massive living machines is a young boy. Great action, great storyline, it's a classic.

Love Hina: In a twist of fate a high school student trying to get into Tokyo University becomes the Resident Manager of a women's dorm room. Classic comedy, hilarious situations, but not a revolutionary anime. Just a fun 24 minutes of viewing.

Kare Kano, I already told you about this one above. It's the most recent of my collection and by far my favorite so far. Only seen the first four episodes but it's destined to be a great addition.

Serial Experiments Lain: A young girl named Lain (Lay-een) is contacted online by one of her dead classmates! "I haven't died, I just left my body." The line between wired world and the real world is beginning to blur. Great freaky storyline, most artistic anime I've seen, but it's kind of slow, but that's what makes the climaxes of each episode so exciting.

My favorites Noir, Kare Kano, and Cowboy Bebop, although the order of those changes with the time of day. All three are great but for very different reasons. If you asked any anime fan, they'd know about Cowboy Bebop and all agree that it is the anime. I have the entire collection, including the unreleased-in-America movie. But Noir just has sexy women and guns, you can't beat that. Kare Kano is a high school love story so everyone can relate to it, it's got a genuinly fun storyline.

what format are these in?

you know, if you've got a good connection you should set up a server and put divxed 352x240 (or whatever) episodes on it for the poor people like me. hiren does that with enterprise.

what films do you watch/have? i like the look of that live-action one from the 'ghost in the shell' guy.. avalon - i was gonna dl it but its like 700mb so i gave up. looks nice though. i think its in polish, of all things.

edit: the thing is i'd like to build the collection before i got to university in october - besides drink and cigarettes which i wouldnt get anyway, the number one student expenditure is on... DVDs! so its divx all the way for me.

Every single anime I have is in DivX, except some of the Evangelion episodes are in that old MPEG4 codec.

The only anime movies I have are Ghost in the Shell, Princess Monoke, and Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door. I didn't like any of those, really. Ghost in the Shell was like a freaky version of the Matrix, Princess Monoke is a fantasy world in which this guy has to save the forest spirit from being killed by bounty hunters and the stupid hog spirits and save a village or two (live with the earth, protect it, Tree hugger type stuff)

Cowboy Bebop deserves a seperate paragraph from those things up there. I haven't found a single thing I didn't like about Cowboy Bebop, and 99% of anime fans would agree with me. There's just too much to go on about that. Paul, email me and I'll send you that small 33MB intro to your email address. Can you handle that? I can cut it down to probably 20, maybe less. I have it encoded in near DVD quality right now.

All my Noir episodes are 640x360 DVD quality, about 200MB's each. They're not released outside of Japan yet, although Bandai bought the license. You'll have to find fansubs by BakaMX or Soldats, those are the best. But I haven't found a single Noir episode on Kazaa that wasn't subbed properly, although it's funny to see the differences in the two translations. They can be more than slightly off :)

Oh, and I forget about Ah! My Goddess. It's a story about this boy in college and he tries to order pizza but instead a real live goddess shows up at the door. Sexy woman, cool magic, fun story. It's also got a movie as well as an anime series.

About karekano :)

It's one of my favorite too. But it's a old serie... like 2 years of more. Don't remember exactly when I got the 1 japanese mangas, but I was really surprised, because it was damn good. After that, came the anime serie. (Thanks to a friend who recorded it in japan :P and send me the tapes) But in the same genre, I think you should like Kodomo No Omocha (Child's Play). It's old, but really good.

But lately, one of my favorite anime is Hikaru No go (about the world of Go) (You can found the translation of the manga at and some other new releases. The anime can be found on kasaa or any good other ways (i'm using ftp). Hajime no Ippo is really cool too (about boxing).

That's all for now. Have to return to works :(

adlm, the anime otaku lol
