lately my pc has been running like a pig - when i load or restore (from the task bar) an IE window, it takes ages for the toolbars to load in - same with WMP. also, videos run poorly - the picture jerks all the time.

so i ctrl-alt-deleted and found "CTFMON.EXE" and "SAPISVR.EXE" running and i'm not sure of their job. i shut them down and sometimes they restart so i ran MSCONFIG and got rid of CTFMON from the registry and it seems to have gone for good and now the pc runs pefectly.

just wondered what was going on. is sapisvr to do with speech because i installed it ages ago, and what the hell is ctfmon?!

They're both Office XP files and have to do with "alternative text input methods". Only Bill knows what this means...

SAPISVR.EXE is part of those funny Microsoft Agents (the wizard / paperclip ), you can use them to read texts etc.

For information on CTFMON.EXE read .

I loved that game but I never understood how you "won" it. There was no end to the rooms in that mazz of a spaceship.

wow i just had one helluva big scare.

earlier today i played a song and it sounded like there were almost unnoticable glitches but i didnt think anything of it.

then about half an hour ago i played a video and it had red and blue boxes coming out all over it like some bits in the file were messed up. so i thought shit, some virus is messing with all my files!!

so i got norton anti virus and it didnt find anything then i realised it was only messing up on complex videos - divx mainly and i remembered earlier today i'd changed my power option from high performance to automatic - changed it back and everythings fine!

i dont see why it messed up though, i mean surely automatic switches between 'basic' and 'high speed' as needed doesnt it?
