Yay, I have done it. 2000 posts full of garbage, gossip, unqualified comments and bullying. What has this world done to me to deserve that?
1998 (or was it 1999?), when I still had my Palm Pilot Personal with 480 kb of memory, I found the german Windows CE Magazine in a store in Kiel, Germany. I bought it and was stunned what those little devices could do. The best one was the Casio Cassiopeia E105, which could even play MP3s.
The months passed and I was sure I could never afford a Windows CE device.
Summer of 2000, I bought my PocketPC after having saved my money for months. I soon discovered Pocket PC Thoughts and PocketGamer. On PocketGamer I read of PocketQuake. I thought it was a joke, but it wasnt.
Some time later, I think it was like January 2001, I read of Argentum on PocketGamer and offered my help. I also joined the boards and posted my first thread: "Realplayer for WindowsCE?". The first one to reply was Jason, whom I contacted via ICQ then asking if he was the one from PocketGamer. We chatted for some time and he told me that he was a musician.
After Fredrik joined the Argentum team, I was thrown out because he didnt know Carpediem said I could help. Oh well, I decided to start my own project.
ArchonCE.
I contacted Jon Freeman about the license and asked Jason to join me as a musician. I saw Randalls illustrations on the boards and contacted him too. I still remember that the first thing Randall said to me was "You have the most german name I have ever heard". lol.
I knew Peter did Gamebox. He also worked with Jason on "There Be Dragonz" that time. I contacted him, asked him if he'd like to join us. After some hesitation he agreed.
We never got a fucking reply from Mr. "I'm so cool, I dont need to answer those dorks" Freeman. Without his permission we couldnt do anything, so we decided to do something original.
The first idea was a jump'n'run. We had a great concept, some drafts and even an excellent story, but for some reason we never made it.
That was about the time Peter showed me a beta version of PocketWorms (today better known as "Snails!"). I then offered to make an interface.
Originally Snails was in portrait mode and you could only cycle thru the weapons with two arrows.
Well, I convinced Peter that landscape mode would be better. I also asked Randall and Jason to join us and there was the Snails team, original version.
The interface layout was done, now I was skinning it when I broke my right hand in PE. I couldnt match the deadline with a broken hand, so they found someone else to do the interface, Ryan Anspach. Those who'd like to see the development of the snails interface can see early screenshots on my website. Snails development continued without me. That was February 2002.
Between then and now not so much things happened. I leaked an old Argentum Beta to a friend (I posted why earlier), I started one more project, which unfortunately didnt work out due to missing in-team communication. It was supposed to be entitle "Thokk" and was set in Norse Mythology. We made up 3 really unique puzzle games never seen before and wanted to make up 7 more, but development stopped and we never managed to make more than that. My birthday was announced on 3 of the largest PocketPC related websites: Pocket PC Thoughts, PocketGamer and PocketMatrix. Wow. I never thought annoying David would get me that far. A few days ago I killed a giant spider.
This has to be the longest post I ever made. Maybe some of you understand me better now. Maybe not.
Post your thoughts about anything Eike here.
Thanks.

So Shapes probably on an airplane right now heading to frankfurt ? Then we has getting another flight an hour and a half later to New York. Spending a day and a half in New York then getting another flight to San francisco, wait some more, and finally fly into the Redding airport in Cali to be picked up by his exchange school dad who doesn't have a computer.

That's quite the trip, and with a 12 hour time difference he's going to have a lot of catching up to do.

Enjoy your next 10 months and I hope your exchange dad gets a computer quick enough in his totally solar powered house.

Good journey
