i can answer that right now with a pretty solid no. As the ppc has no hardware MIDI table, it would be quite a pain in the ass. Unless you want dan to implement his own software MIDI table, which takes a good chunk of processing power, and even then what kind of MIDI are you looking for, good quality? or bad quality? you may get by with just a few of the cheesy old 8-bit synth sounds for the software table, so it would sound like it would back in the days the game came out; but if you want a good MIDI playback, something comparable to a MIDI tune on any sound card today, youre talking about adding atleast a good 40MB to the file for all the different instruments :)

Of course, I wouldn't mind it :) but i have a microdrive ;D

Couldn't you convert the midis into wavs or mp3s?

If you were gonna do that, you could convert them yourself and play them through WMP in the background, Warren.

Not just the music, the people yelling and stuff, the normal sounds. Plus, playing Wolfenstein and WMP at the same time would suck the battery dry before you'd know it, and you wouldn't have the different music changing when levels change.

well, it would be very feasible to convert the midi into a mod-type file and then have that playback with mikmod or fmod, which could also handle the playback of the yells and firing sounds (if converted to wav, which wouldnt be tough; actually all sound in the game are just in raw chunks of data). And seeing as how the game is freeware, there would be no penalty for using mikmod or fmod to handle this :) -cough-

As Jaybot said I don't think software MIDI with Wolf is going to work very well - probably be rather slow.

There is a Soft MIDI player for PocketPC that I'd not seen mentioned here before at http://www.cministries.com/software/PocketMIDI its based on Timidity.

Chris

I've had that player for a long while now :) Its nice because i can specifi pat files, which i can extract from my own sf2 sound fonts, so it sounds exactly like my desktop. however, thats a little over 40 megs ;)

I take back what I said earlier though, as the wolf music is in mus files, i believe that it played back with the crappy synth sounds embedded into the files. So, dan might be able to get that working, if he can figure it out. The voices and sfx are in snd format, which can easily be converted to wav, or if dan finds source code to an oldskool conversion prog, he may be able to integrate that into the game, and have it convert and play trough the wav out on the fly. Otherwise, he could just convert all of the sounds to wav and change the code to call a wav file instead of a snd file.

anyway, i'm gonna go play with dexplor now.
