Dan any updates on this? I know your busy and obviously have real life things to contend with but any update even if its nothing new or the project is dead would be good to hear. Also thanks for taking the time to look into this,, it would be very cool and something Id gladly be willing to pay for.

My commercial project will be ready to release very soon. Hopefully after that I can find some time for the emulator and PQ. I will release the source to the emulator when the first beta is released, so perhaps some of the other programmers that frequent this site can contribute as well.

Dan East

I've spoken with another developer, and I'm planning on releasing an Alpha binary of Bochs as-is, along with the source, within 2 weeks. I hope that progress can be made on this project as a joint venture, as I don't have time to devote to it currently.

There are only 2 real issues with my port of Bochs at the moment:
1) A custom SIP is needed that can work in portrait as well as landscape mode. I'm thinking of using a full-screen, alpha-blended keyboard basically like Jacco's innovation as seen in Alice.

2) Currently I'm simply using a Device Context for screen drawing, as opposed to direct screen access (GAPI). Also, only a couple VGA modes are supported. All vga modes need to be implemented, including a sub-pixel or scrolling display for resolutions greater than 320x240.

Dan East

Wow this will be neat. Will there be enough documentation to for users to figure out how to get win95 working in it? I really wanna try getting evc++ on my ppc even though it will be slow.

The biggest problem with Bochs is that it uses Disk Images to represent hard disk drives, floppies, etc. So, you have to create a disk image of a certain size (so many sectors, heads, cylinders, etc). Then you have to use another program to move real files into / out of that image. So on your Pocket PC or Storage Card you have this big fat file (exactly the size you want the HDD to be) that you can't get stuff into / out of. You would have to move the file back to your PC to do that.

Dan East

No, you can save, etc. My point is that as-is you would have two different worlds on your Pocket PC: the virtual HDD, and all the rest of the real files on your Pocket PC. There will be no way to connect the two together at first.

Dan East

Oh ok, i understand what your saying now. I dont really find that as to big of a problem althought that would mean you would have to run a ppc emu on your ppc to test out cv++ programs, if that wouldnt just be way to slow.
