Yes it would work fine in Europe too... UMTS protocol is the same here (in Europe) as it is in Japan.

My co-worker has the same cell phone as i do (Sony Ericsson Z1010), and it worked just fine when he was visiting Japan :)

How exactly are you going to get the CF UMTS card from DoCoMo?
