Hiya all.

jaybot: From what I understand you feel you never got compensated for your work on Argentum. According to **** you got compensated. Believe me, I have asked him many times if you got your share because it was very important to me. If you didn't it sure isn't mine or carpe's fault. If feel you got too little, then you might be mistaken. Argentum didn't sell very well at all. Atleast I didn't get that much money out of it. Most people got it through IRC or some warez FTP-site.

As for a new version. I do have the lastest sourcecode on my disk with some extra additions compared to the official version (better landscape generation quality and higher resolution z-buffer för better shadows among other things). Allthough the code is quite ugly with very little OOP in it. Which explains all the delays in getting it done. It started out as a test case which then evolved into something very hardcoded and spagetti-like. Was at the end of the production I managed to get some of the evil out of it and put into external data files. Argentum could rank as some of the most ugly source-code I have on my harddrive. :-)

Oh, here are some unreleased maps which were supposed to end up as an expansion to argentum, but never did. We even had a cheesy story that would even rival the cheesy story of the original argentum.

You can find shots of the new maps, utilizing the "new" map render system, here:

here is a sample:

Carpe: If you want the full source-code then drop me a mail and I'll e-mail you all the goodies. It should also compile without any problems as a Windows executable to be run on the desktop. Then you can do whatever you please with it.

I have nothing but respect for you Fredrik.

This should be done behind closed doors, but as long as you want to bring it up...

I was and still am upset after talking to John Lomax about how he was never compensated well enough for his efforts. I could honestly care less about my lousy residuals.

No one outside of Sherv has seen a dime outside the sales from the first year. Argentum continued to make sales and stayed at the top of the lists on Pocketgear (not the best site for sales, but its still a source) for several years after the initial release. Last I heard he was in Iran and would send everyone their cuts sales from the past few years as soon as he can, that was about a year ago.

The project fell apart almost instantly after the release, the team disbanded, support became nil, ionside's website is nonexistent, and now the game doesn't run on any current devices. All very sloppy from start to finish.

And now Carpe suddenly comes out and says 'I want more money, so I'm going to port it to Palm! Regardless of how it works on the PPC... Whaddya think?'

I think there are too many holes to be plugged up before thinking of a port. Which is why I say make it freeware, leave it as dead as it is, or start a new project.

Couldn't agree with you more there, let's not roll around in this now. Let bygones be bygones

As for the future of Argentum I really don't care that much. Would be fun to see what would happen if it all was released as freeware.

Hey Fredrik - is there any chance you could email me a copy of the 1.3 patch? Lots of people are still asking me if I know where it is!

Hard to believe it's been so long since the original release.

Actually when I investigate things then my version is labeled 1.2. Maybe the 1.2 that is out there is the latest version.

Hell if you bastards pop up, I might as well too. :)

Carpe, long, long, long, time no see. Palm version eh? Sounds, good. This time though, don't set a time limit.

That, "in a few months," garbage is just that. No offense, but even though I am and always have been a lowly programmer/designer/artist, compared to some of you here (which is why I do Tech for a living, not Programming ;) ), even I know better.

Good start deleting the other thread though.

I only say this, as I know you guys irritated alot of people (remember "people" = likely customers ;) ), with your many release dates which never bloomed.

By the time Argentum was released many, including myself kind of had the attitude of when reading about it thinking, "oh that's nice, wait, DID THEY SAY RELEASED?" :)

Btw, I still have that non working MIPS beta you sent me to test for you several years back Carpe. Did you guys ever even release a MIPS version?

Anyway, I just happened to pop in and see what's new.

Sponge, warez kiddie, heh heh. I thought they would tar and feather you.

Oh and Jason, well done man on the Arvale music. Amesome! Oh and the game definately reflects the little I know of you. All those pubs, sexy women, and the humor of the dialog. I smiled several times when playing it. Though no living on a couch though. :)

Take care all.
