MultiPlayer RA via Omni Sky?

MultiPlayer RA via Omni Sky?

Postby RobMurph » Apr 24, 2001 @ 12:56am

So I finially got PQ working, and RA, but can I play against someone on the net via Wireless net access? I've got a Jornada with the OmniSky 540 and it'd be tight to be walking down the halls at work, gaming with someone!

Help? Is it here, is it coming, or am I an idiot for suggesting it?

I havent used an Omnisky but i guess you could connect to someone else through tcp/ip.

I think you'll need to find a server running 999's special version of Rocket Arena though if you want to play anyone else

I don't think RA is a special version, but that map is.

well... it is actually the omicron bot with rocket arena support - not the actual rocket arena mod

so i suppose you'd have to be running omicron on the server?

Yep, I stated that in my main post, the RA bot is actually built in to Omnicron. While it's my bot of choice, I hadn't fully explored it's potential until recently.

BTW- As it stands, you *can* join any RA server, as it's mainly a server side MOD, provided you have the maps (most are DM maps). The only real problem is, most Quake servers are running QuakeWorld's entity prediction routines, which I'm not sure can be utilized by PocketQuake. Therefore, you're stuck only connecting to servers not running QW, which as you know, is pretty slimp pickin's.

Another thing to consider, is how much bandwidth your Wireless setup has. A 28.8 modem is about as low as Quake can handle, anything lower and your character will jump from point to point as the packets are recieved and sent, not very fun.
