ya i just now read the other thread about the software. Im gonna try this pos sounding software when i get home. If it works with my ipaq and my tv/vcr combo i may acually try to build a booster and write a how-to about it.

Well, if you're talking about step-by-step on physically how to do it, then that's not too difficult. The third picture on that page is a template for etching a Printed Circuit Board. Basically that pattern is placed on a "blank" solid copper coated circuit board using a special magic marker. The board is then bathed in acid, which dissolves all the copper not covered by the marker. You left with a perfectly etched board ready for use. You then use a very small drill-bit to place holes where indicated on the template. A quick search revealed this . All the components, including a kit to etch circuit boards, can be acquired from Radio Shack.

It looks like most of the components are surface mount, so they don't require holes. To me the circuit looks a little more complex than it need be, considering it is simply retransmitting the exact pulses received by the IR transceiver. I would think it would only really require a transistor to do the switching, and perhaps a capacitor to filter and a resistor to adjust output voltage to the IR LED. In other words the circuit could be entirely analog.
The design is also much larger than it need be, but it appears it is designed around 2 AAA batteries. Smaller lithium batteries could be used, but the battery life would be shorter.

Dan East
