Dan, Where's PocketDoom ???

Postby James S » Aug 20, 2002 @ 11:18pm

Ya gf, I did resize. I tried again and it works fine. Landscape runs just as fast as portrait, which is great. I guess that's due to the scaling. I'm trying JimmyDoom just to make sure it is running slower and it's not just me.

[EDIT] Okay, your version actually runs SLIGHTLY faster (maybe the same speed) than Jimmy's, except on the initial loading.

Landscape mode kicks ass. If only it were faster on my XScale device. I know you can optimize it generally and that would really help it. I know Quake runs faster on XScale than it did on MIPS, and Doom ran pretty smoothly on MIPS so...

Excellent job! Works like a charm here. Nice to see the option for scaling of clipping too. Only shame is it wasn't a port like Legacy, so you have support for a lot of the new WADs. Or at least the Boom feature set.

LEFT HANDED SUPPORT!!!

Controls are a bit weird, and I can't play it in landscape. Uses the same position as the virutal pad in landscape, like the old Pocket Quake right?

OSD controls are a bit laggy too.

With Doom, why does the PPC need more quality FPS titles? ;P

I'm saying in Landscape controls should be these (for the iPaq):
Record = fire
Contacts = open
Action = strafe
Calendar = Menu

That would be PERFECT, absolutely PERFECT!

For playing midis, how about AdPlug:

Oh, and in the mips version, there is no way to select a menu item. You can cycle through them by tapping the screen, but you can't select one. I tried all the hardware buttons, and all the onscreen ones.

Action should be fire, pad strafe/forward, and mouse to turn. Works the best for 3600'ers. Those are the essentials, maybe an on screen button for open and everything else.

First of all, thank you! It's about time someone made a quality Doom port for the PocketPC! However, I think there are two things it needs...

-Configurable Controls! I don't really like the preset controls and want to change them

-Gamma correction for us iPAZ 38XXers... it's practically impossible for me to see the screen due to the darkness problem.
