Gameboy DS

Postby Mechcommander » Nov 25, 2004 @ 1:44am

I was able to try one at Wal-Mart, and look at the Metoid game. It was interesting, although the aiming style (With the stylus) really seemed awkward to me. Other than that, it definetely does look pretty neat. Pretty much a Portable N64 with some neat added capabilities. I won't consider getting one until the price comes down, though.

peek a boo 8)
I tried one out at a demo last weekend, they hooked us up wirelessly to other people trying it out in metroid, and of course I kicked some ass, largely thanks to my experience with GFdoom and my sweet skin config 8)

I dont quite see how people dont like its looks, when I saw it in person it acctually looked better and smaller than I expected (yeah I usually expect the worst). One thing that I was really hoping for was for it to replace my old Axim x5, but it doesent seem like it has much PDA capabilities yet, hopefully in the future.

When I look at the specs, and all the hardware features, and the price, man it makes me think of how it blows my PDA away in every catagory, Microsoft should make a PocketPC DS version or something, man would that kill.

For those who dont know there is a thumbstrap that Nintendo designed that can be used for added comfort. I would definatly take this and use it for my PDA as I hate busting out my stylus. This reportedly make games like Metroid way more comfortable to play.

oh? you tried the DS with the strap? well at least the ign dudes thought it was comfortable, I've always wanted something like this since I use my finger most of the time on my PDA nowadays. It looks cheap and effective to me, but have yet to try it. I'm thinking of making one myself, good luck to me.

It's not long enough. Already, it's tough reaching the top/bottom corners, and the strap makes it worse.

the DS is pretty cool but i have a few gripes. i do find it kinda bulky i much prefer the SP design ... i dunno about the 2 screens and stylus .. these things seem more like gimmicks then actually useful features... if you use the stylus then its very hard to press the buttons ... and as for the strap well .. to be polite ill just say i don’t much care for it. its a shame too i usually prefer nintendo gear and games. as for the psp i dunno how much better it will be then the ds... sony is heavily involved w/ DRM which means less fun for every one ( i dont think it will be an ideal mp3 / movie player get ready to convert your mp3s to atrac3 format :( etc.. ) + its quite a bit bigger then the DS from what iv seen.

a lot of them support mp3's unfortunately that usually means it converts it to atrac3 on the fly (when you transfer files to the device). maybe not all their devices do this. I know some do for sure. Sony is into their own proprietary formats ... (memory stick atrac3 etc..) its cool i guess if everything you own is sony.

Well, we're getting my 8 year old daughter a DS for Christmas this year. The thing that really did it is the Nintendogs game. My daughter (and wife) are enthralled by that game. It is rather cute.

My masculinity was ashamed by playing, and liking, the game at E3.
