Port of Flashback engine

Port of Flashback engine

Postby Arisme » Jan 31, 2005 @ 1:08am

For the fans of Flashback out there, Grégory Montoir (cyx) did it again http://membres.lycos.fr/cyxdown/reminiscence/ and here is the port in progress http://arisme.free.fr/CEports ... you can report problems here even if I won't have much time to look at them

(note that you'll need the original Flashback DOS files to use this emulator)

new version 21st Feb 2005 : updated to Cyx 0.1.3, VGA resolution, Smartphone support, Level codes and key mapping

new version 04th Apr 2005 : updated to Cyx 0.1.4, fix save state (pending Cyx fix), add in-game menu to save/load state, add crash report

Ya baby! And I thought I was the only one who knew that game.
No, I've never seen that, I've never seen anyone drive their garbage out to the curb and bang the hell out of it with a stick. No, I've never seen that.

I remember playing Another World (aka Out of This World) on my Amiga. I think it was the predecessor to Flashback and made by the same guy. I was told that basically one guy made the entire game (coding, story, art, etc). Don't know if that was true or not (that was back in 1990 or so).

Already on SNES

You can play Another World and Flashback using SNES emulator on Pocket PC - it is perfect. Gameplay is identical to the PC experience.

the pc version has far superior movies, but yes, the snes version plays fine. its a little slow on a 300mhz ppc, so i hope this port will give full speed with sound

I've got the original on my SNES still laying around here :). I was too young at the time to play it, but my brother loved the game :).

Great to see another kickass port from you Arisme!

Well, Out of this World was recreated by Grégory too, and porting it was very interesting (since the engine is purely based on polygons, it was possible to rescale it before rendering and it was running pretty well on the first generation SPV), but Eric Chahi does not want it to be released yet ... we hope we'll change his mind

it should, if you recompile it for HPC and remove the useless libraries I probably forgot to remove (aygshell & common dialogs)

You have to put all the flashback files (DOS version) in the same directory (check the README file to find out which files you need).

I tried it and it works like a charm (except for sound ;)).
