PocketQuake has been capable of being played from the storage card for a long time. So unless you have a very old version, just place all the quake files in a folder called quake in the root of your CF card. If you do have a older version of Quake, download the latest from http://www.PocketMatrix.com/PocketQuake

I'm not aware of any 500mb mmc cards, but it works the same way as a cf card anyways.

Just make sure the pak file is in the route directory of your storage card
/storgae card/Quake/Id1/pak0.pak

There should really be an option to specify the folder so you can use custum folders. I think I'll make that for the 720 version this weekend.

look, their is an issue with the compaq ipaq black and white playing the game
the reason the guy asked was because it said on YOUR site that there was a file. Unless you see it in the readme, you dont know that its in the actual game already.
first off, we cant play the game unless we have a memory card (not enough memory)
thats not your fault
the problem is that when we get it to load (after we get the program memory up to 8 megs (with wince that is hard to, because it resets if it considers there to be to little of storage memory) the game is unresponsive and nothing is pressable.
please help us in figuring this out (several others have posted the same problem at diffent stages)
after a while of trying it you get a "fatal application error screen" that tells you it preformed an illegal operation and will be shutdown. for me, this happens after a critically low memory window shows up.
It is my belief that either the program is trying to open another program after windows decides you cant open any more, causing an error, or windows is having a problem with there not being enough memory.
A possible solution would be if you could tell us how to get windows to use flash memory from the card.

If you're talking about the mono iPAQ version of PocketQuake, I'm the guy that did the code conversion. I don't know why you're having the problem you seem to be having. There is no difference as far as input or speed between the color and the greyscale versions. I didn't touch any of that code. I do know that the fatal application error will sometimes appear when Quake tries to overreach the amount of program memory available and dip into storage memory. This can be a problem in the oft-times cramped space of the 16 meg 3150. Personally, I only get it when playing reaper bots for long periods of time and their waypoint structure grows too large. I would advise two things:

First, the unresponsiveness can be caused by PQ having to ungzip the .pak file if you're playing from the pak0.pak.gz. This sucks, but it can be fixed by simply unzipping the file (Winzip will do nicely) to the CF card.

Secondly, check to see that you have plenty of memory free when you run PQ, and you have no other tasks running in the background. Try to have at least 7 megs of free PROGRAM memory free, and you should see an improvement in stability, if not performance.

Finally, do what any 3100 owner plans to do eventually: buy a 64-meg upgrade from someone like times2tech.com. The 16 megs on the monochrome series is fine for most daily use, but for gaming it can be a little tight and for only a hundred bucks you can have a WinCE machine as good as a 3670 in everything but the screen, for about $300 less. It's well worth the money, and I'm personally going to do it as soon as I get some problems in my college life settled.

Hope this helped. If you have any other problems, search the forums, e-mail me, or post here, in that order.
