I was doing some cost analysis and decided that I really need some more memory for my iPaq 3950. I have a shit load of music vid on my puter (over 550) and have started to rip em to DivX to put on my PPC. Looking around, I found that to get a 256 stick of SD mem would run me close to $200 bucks. Alot of cash, for only a mediocre amount of memory.
Conversly, I found an eBay seller that is selling Kingston 5GB PCMCIA HDD for $129... brand new, factory sealed (OEM). And then to get a PC Card sleeve would run me about another $100 (min) off of eBay.
The question is do PCMCIA hard drives, suffer the same problems as the IBM (Iomega) MicroDrive?. Since I would have the extra battery in the sleeve, would I notice a major, if any battery loss, compared to my device with the internal battery alone? And finally, ripping a DVD to DivX, and playing it back off of that device, would I have any problems due to the much slower speeds of a hard drive vs. solid state memory?
