Hi guys,
I think the XScale Processor is backward compatibel with the Arm4 (StrongArm) core, and this is the biggest problem about the performance.
The most apps on the market today is written for the Arm4 core.
I have bought last week the ipaq 3950, and i had before the 3870. If i test both units with a game emulator like gnuboy (gameboy) and set the settings for frame drop to 1 or 0, the strongarm unit pops and can not give the performance. But the Xscale performed the emulation with no dropped frames.
I know this is a very simple example, but i can not believe that most of the guys here say that the xscale performs equal to strongarm. yes im sure the xscale does not 100% perform its speed but at last i think in 2 years there will only apps available for the xscale machines with backward compatibility for the strongarm.
