You can do a timerefresh. That does a 360 rotation around the Y axis and reports the FPS. In that case the FPS is completely dependant on where you are standing, so it is not a very good indicator, and should not be used for benchmarking. Only timedemo is accurate because it always renders the exact same frames each time, as well as including things like particle effects, elevator action, etc.

actually, adding an FPS counter to PQ would be fairly easy. The first number in r_speeds is the milleseconds to render the scene. That can be used to get an indication of FPS.
