Sponge, yes I tried the the GB version of Worms, and the BGC version of worms. It was pitiful. but none-the-less it was an official port. My point was that just because Snails is a Worms clone doesn't mean it will magically sell.
For that list, I actually REMOVED the theme pack, because I felt it did not belong in the games category. I think most people would agree, so hopefully that won't generate any confusion nor skew/disqualify the results.
The top-sellers list is by units sold, not revenue. Even the record industry and PC industry build their charts based on units sold, not revenue. So this is standard. (movies use box-office receipts)
How else could DOTS ($1) outsell Argentum ($15)?
Birdiestyle, when a game first launches, it is typical for the "buy" code to be tested. So the first few sales may actually be the developers and their buddies. So although they may have 16 total downloads, 5 of those might be the developers.
I don't think the list is comprised of something as long as a month. It took Age of Empires and Everquest a matter of days to dominate the list. Could they have caught up that quickly? Possibly- both are well known titles in the PC world. But we don't have that kind of information to be sure.
The top-ten list varies HUGELY even within that small range. I happen to recall the sales of Snails and Gamebox for a single day. Although they were #1 and #5 on that list (sometime in december) the units sold were multiples of tens apart.
I would expect they would only be a few units apart in sales. Thats not the case necessarily.
