No, I mean by the HP, the manufacturer. All PocketPCs are standard, if a piece of software works on one then it works on all unless stated to the contrary.

Actually, atleast my iPaq 3630 is sidelit, not backlit. If they had used backlighting technology you wouldn't see shit if you turned it off. Most laptops have a function for turning the backlighting off, they go pitch black ;) Backlighting looks better than sidelighting, but if you use sidelighting you can place a mirror behind the LCD so it reflects light from outside of the device; i.e. you can see something on the screen if you're in a bright room / in sunlight even if the LCD-lighting is off.

Even though they're technically sidelights in most cases, they're still called backlights pretty much universally.
