Game storage footprints

Game storage footprints

What has been the experience of you guys that have released games with regard to how people feel about storage footprint? What do you see as the reasonable upper limit for most games?

I ask because the game I'm getting ready to release looks like it will come in around 5M when it's all done. This doesn't strike me as too much considering most people tend to have large memory cards, and add to that the fact that the game has a large number of cut scenes with voiceovers and such, so it's obviously going to be a bit larger than a simple game of Blackjack!

At present the load time on my E-125 is longer than I'd like (around 30 seconds I think, but I haven't even begun any optimizing yet), but that's also a function of all the multimedia components that have to be readied initially. This is relevant because in order to get the storage footprint down I'd have to use compression on much of the resources, but this will obviously only increase the load time.

It's a tough trade-off, so I wanted to see if anyone had any experience in terms of feedback from users to see what they generally think. Since your all users yourselves, your opinions are just as relevant naturally! :)
...and so I said to Mr. Gates: "$640 billion should be enough for anyone!"

I have no problem with a large footprint on a storage card as long as you don't install too much "junk" on my PPC itself in the Windows directory. I have loaded games (ie, Ultima Underworld) that have taken as much as 16 MB after the complete install.

I am more annoyed at longer load times. Of course, the perfect balance between load times and storage size is ideal. Keep storage requirements between 5-8 MB and you shouldn't hear too many complaints. Well, at least, none from me.
A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day.
