Toshiba e750/755 for gaming?

Toshiba e750/755 for gaming?

Postby SmarterThanSam » Apr 30, 2003 @ 3:52am

How is the Toshiba e750 or e755 for gaming? And also, what's the difference between the two? Can they run AIM? Am I stupid for asking these questions?

Thanks

Runs PocketQuake at 10.3 fps, but so does the Zayo. The 750/755 probably has the button lag issue as well. Wait till they come out with another brand with the PXA255.

The e750 gets a bit better than the Zayo actually. I say if there's no button lag, go for it, you also get superior playback performance with the Imageon.
holy internets batman.

Did you ever wonder if your mum gave dad a blo*jo* right before she kissed you? Good night!

Having owned an E755 for only a few weeks I have noticed its performance in the gaming department is so far better than the iPAQ 5455, 3955, and definitely E740. I can't say anything about the Axim or Asus since those I never tried those PPCs.

Funny thing is the performance increases can vary. It seems to handle PocketSNES and Morphgear's GBA emulator better than ever, especially the Bleeding Edge SNES emulator. But some games seem to run just as slow as they do on the first generation 400mhz x-scale. I can only guess that it has to do with the new bus and how certain programs use memory. Landscape games are still slow as ever (a known problem with the E740's ATI video chip)

I never really noticed any button lag with the new Toshiba. I did notice the same button issues that existed with the E740 are still around though. Like not being able to press right on the joypad and the third button at the same time. Or how certain games map actions to buttons 1/2 that should have mapped to buttons 3/4.

I would recommend waiting for more PX255 devices to hit the market before making your purchase. While the E755 is faster than most current PPCs that I have used in the past I am sure another PPC will come out very soon that will not be burdened with a video chip like the ATI.
