Library Girl Thread

You should check out Rhett Miller. I like some of his stuff. He was the lead singer of the Old 97's.

Now so no one whines that this thread has gotten too off topic I will write a little blurb.

I went to a party on Friday night. My friend Shaun was there. Hes a guy that I helped hook up with his lady friend (who is a good friend of mine.) Anyways after winning several round of MVC2 against him his sister showed up and asked me to go play Genesis with him. Yeah she is hot and now I know she likes to play vintage video games. I haven't gotten her outa my mind since then. I think I am gonna ask her out on a date during the Thanksgiving break. We will see how that goes. Hopefully Shaun won't go crazy and kill me. Thats all for now.

Well, if you want some cool/innovative stuff, check out some of the following.

Menomena - they created their own computer program to mix their stuff; it's custom-designed for their music. They record their instruments, mix it up in the program, and then learn it from that, so all of their live performances are essentially remixes of their studio songs. They can be found here (crazy fucking site):
http://www.menomena.com/Thanks.html - click number 1, as it is a sample mp3. More can be found here:
http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/menomena

The Wrens home-record a mix of indie rock and emo. Despite emo's status as the most despised genre in many indie circles, even Pitchforkmedia (a review site) gave it a 9.5. Sample mp3s can be found here, though they don't do the record justice:
http://www.wrens.com/wrens/

Circulatory System is psych-pop that harkens back to the Beatles with a decidedly modern and philosophical twist. MP3's avialable here:
http://www.cloudrecordings.com/sights.html

The Notwist play indie rock with another twist: they have an electronic manipulator named Console who fleshes out their sound and glitches up the instruments. Very interesting. MP3s here:
http://www.cityslang.com/home.html - click MP3s, search the page for "Notwist." For these guys, only get songs off of Neon Golden -- they used to be a hardcore band and only this CD is good.

So there's my basic introductory "interesting" band list. There are plenty more good bands, but those are good if you're feeling a bit adventerous. The good thing about them is they're all very accessible, but still have something thrown in to make them really unique and enjoyable.

Sand, are you planning on becoming a music journalist? This is some good shit. You should throw up a site.

I write reviews for a website. I would link you, but it's down at the moment. They're my little prides and joys

I haven't considered it as a career; it's sort of a part-time hobby. But when I get interested in things, I tend to try to achieve expertise as soon as possible.

PS, I wanted to start up a site a couple months ago, but decided against it due to lack of web-designing skills, writing staff, and resources. Instead I applied to a variety of webzines and settled with Deleusions of Adequacy. URL: www.adequacy.net My review of The Wrens' new CD will be up on Monday. My dream is writing for www.pitchforkmedia.com , but they have yet to open a spot on their staff. Writing for that site is pretty much the ultimate honor for freelance, freetime indie music writers. They've been around since 1995, have 50,000 visitors per day, and charge $700 a month for main-page adspace.

Organic Superlube? Oh, it's great stuff, great stuff. You really have to keep an eye on it, though--it'll try and slide away from you the first chance it gets.
