Yes, there is. But if you check the weekend deals at places like BestBuy or CircuitCity you can find 802.11b routers for cheap. I got mine for $30 three months ago. I'm sure there are some Free after Mail-In Rebate deals. I'd suggest going with a new router, it works far better than adhoc between computers.

i bought a dlink refurbished wifi router for $9.99 after rebates, now that my friends... is a deal.
