Organic Superlube? Oh, it's great stuff, great stuff. You really have to keep an eye on it, though--it'll try and slide away from you the first chance it gets.

A CF reader is also HIGHLY reccomended (or another PPC that can transfer files onto CF) what happens if the flash doesn't go right? With no serial, your basically screwed. (Basically, either get a CF reader, or a serial cable, the latter is MUCH MUCH more preferred)

Look on eBay, since Compaq will probably rip you off.

By the way, this sounds a lot more dangerous than it is. These are basically safeguards though. As long as you have a working bootloader, and a serial cable, you can recover from ANY problem outside of physical damage, even if the problem is not Linux-related.

Also keep in mind that you will not be able to use Compaq ROM updaters (without a little modification, but that's for a later date) however with your device I don't see that as being much of a problem.

Hmmm.. I *do* have a CF reader.. But if you recomend a serial cable, then I'll see if I can grab one. Thanks for the help.
[Edit] Well, it seems that as long as I can flash a bootloader that has CF compatibility, I could recover from most errors, but you just wouldn't recomend it, eh?[/Edit]

Well, Sponge, I went and pulled a stupid. I installed Linux, played around with it, and decided I wanted WinCE back. So, do I need a serial cable to re-install my WinCE image?
I looked at to find the directions on how to re-install WinCE, and it says I have to press the space bar a few times in order to get to a boot prompt.. Obviously, the iPAQ doesn't have a built-in keyboard, and I'm guessing that Xmodem is a serial file transfer utility...
Or, is there a way to get Pocket PC back onto my iPAQ with the CF sleeve (and the CF reader for my PC)?

But, if it requires a serial cable, it looks like I'll be stuck with a Linux handheld for the time being.
