Asus a716 Review is here

Postby Matt Keys » Feb 17, 2004 @ 6:39am

Alright, I have been using this thing for over a week, going over and testing everything I can think of. So here it is, the first review of the Asus a716!

<a href="http://www.pocketmatrix.com/reviews/a716/"><img src="http://www.pocketmatrix.com/reviews/a716/images/gamepad.jpg" border="0"></a>

"I have been using the Asus A620BT as my primary device for some time now. So with the A716 I expect the same kind of quality that I am used to with Asus products. Upon first arrival a few things came to mind…"

Check it out <a href="http://www.pocketmatrix.com/reviews/a716">here</a> <!>

I will also be giving away the review unit here on PM, if you would like to be entered in the drawing, go <a href="http://www.pocketmatrix.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15107">here</a>

Great review! It seems to be very fair and balanced. This sounds like the right PDA for me. I am willing to put up with a slightly larger form factor in order to get the diverse connectivity and expansion support (WiFi, Bluetooth, SD and CF, all integrated). Also the battery life is incredible. This really sounds like a good utility type device, kind of like a swiss army knife of PPCs, as opposed to a tiny, slim PDA for mainly PIM type use.

Great review!
I have a question about the battery status. I've experienced fluctuating battery status when using E-3000(the same model as Asus A716).

The battery status gets unstable when your usage pattern becomes more CPU-intensive. For example, if you run an emulator like Morphgear or FpseCE for a while(ex: 30 mins or so), the device will soon report "critical battery" and shut down although actually there is still much power in its battery. After around 5 minutes of "sleep" you can power on the device, and the battery status is even above 50%!

Did anyone experience the same thing on Asus A716?

First of all - the e3000 is not the same unit. The e3000 was developed by asus and used last years technology.... as well as the case that was on the a710 -- the a716 uses a new case, and has different features...... the battery is not even close to being the same.

And one more thing: the reason why the case of E-3000 is different from A716 is that Asus OEM for CASSIOPEIA with the case of E-3000, thus they may not use the case exactly the same as the one used on E-3000. So they did some minor modifications on A716 & A710 but the shapes are almost the same as the original reference design. Even A710's case is not 100% the same as E-3000's. And did you see any A710 on the market? No. ;)

record yes, jog I don't believe so. I don't see how the A716 matches your picky requirements... it doesn't allow simulataneous, USB host, or VGA. The Mitac Mio 558 does do usb host though, or e800 comes close too.
