I don't care about this emulator either, but your point made no sense.
A punishment implies that someone is depriving someone else of something -- something that would otherwise be theres.
This guy was supplying his labor (for free) so that others could benefit. I don't know about you, but I'd call that a gift -- almost the exact opposite of a punishment.
Say, for whatever reason, his situation changed and he decided he requires compensation for his labor. Unless he has some sort of contractual obligation; he is depriving nobody of anything. The only people who'd have a right to bitch, if he abandons a project, are those who contributed something to him (namely, donations) under the agreement that he would continue with the project.
As far as I'm concerned, the guy should be commended for contributing to a free product; not censured by a bunch of ungratefuls for no valid reason. You guys are acting like a bunch of spoiled children, disappointed with their christmas presents.
