Want your product reviewed?

Postby Chris Edwards » Mar 20, 2004 @ 8:41pm

We have a few reviewers looking for software products to review, so if you're a developer and you want us to review your software then send us an email at reviews@pocketmatrix.com.

Just include your product name, website, and a short description.

We can't gaurantee that we'll review all of the requests we receive, so please don't send us exe's/cab's unless we've told you that someone will be reviewing your software.

Q1) At what stage should games be submitted, eg: beta or fully on sale?

Q2) Are the reviewers fully independant

I am waiting until release for Concentrix to be reviewed.

Right now there are two compatibility issues: iPAQ 1910 exception and Axim X5 Advanced hang. I believe I have traced the 1910 problem to a compile bug. I'm not yet sure if it also fixes the problem on Axim but I don't believe it will. I now believe the problem on Axim is in my sleep timing code, although I haven't confirmed this yet and am not sure of why this would occur. It's possible that QueryPerformanceXXX functions don't work as advertised on some devices I suppose.

So you see, I'd hate to be roasted in reviews for problems that really aren't due to me. I will take responsibility for fixing them, but not for causing them. Remember, when you review my code, you are also reviewing eVC3, STLport, GapiDraw, Hekkus, your system libraries... the list goes on.

So I agree, for most professionals it's not appropriate to review a beta version. For hobbyists looking for feedback, it's OK I guess.

I know for me, I don't even like my WIFE to see my incomplete work, and a beta-test version IS incomplete by defnition. So I would never have someone review my beta product.

Besides, getting a good review these days can be tough to begin with, people are a lot more demanding and expect more than they used to, ESPECIALLY when it comes to games, and I'm not about to give them any more to not like than I absolutely have to.
...and so I said to Mr. Gates: "$640 billion should be enough for anyone!"

I don't mind people seeing the incomplete versions, as long as they understand that it's incomplete. To me, reviewing an incomplete version as a complete version is a TYPE MISMATCH ERROR. :-)

we've done a few previews at PDArcade before the release,

we were even trusted with an alpha of the soon to be released "pocket 4000 ad"

I think that if you want your product to get maximised publicity, a preview is the best option. Previews may not reach out as far as advertisements on generic ppc sites like ppc thoughts, but they do reach your exact target audience- the PPC gamers and if every one of those buys it, that's a great start.

I've been trusted in the past by companies with doing previews for big games, like Warlords 2 and I think they probably helped loads especially compared to the fact that it only cost them the price of 1 game copy.
