Could use alittle advice...

Postby ZeroFaith » Mar 29, 2004 @ 10:59pm

Ok, heres my dilemna. Im currently a security officer working alot of 12-16H night shifts. I need something along the lines of a PocketPC that I can use with with my Sprint PCS Vision service to get online, browse the web, send e-mails, etc.

I would like it to be able to play games/emulators well also. As it will give me something to do to pass the time and help me get through these double shifts I've been pulling.

Now, first off I was gonna get an N-Gage... checked one out locally. Ditched that idea real quick :P Then I looked into a Zodiac, which is a Gaming PDA Console type deal that runs on the Palm OS ( is the company that makes em. Problem with the Zodiac though it that its BlueTooth only, and SprintPCS doesn't currently offer any BlueTooth enabled phones.

Anyone have any suggestions? I was looking as a Dell Axim X5 but the general consensus on these forums is that they dont handle emulation to well. Asus 620 looks really nice but Im just curious how your supposed to do much while you have a CF Modem or similiar in since I cant seem to find any of the PPC to Cell phone cables for it. Wouldnt have much storage while the modem/WiFi card is in.

Not sure what else to look at. Any info is greatly appreciated. These overnight double shifts with nothing to do are driving me nuts!

You're a security guard? What if some guy punches you and breaks your PDA? heh...

But anyway, I'd recommend the Zodiac...however, it clearly sounds like you might need a PPC phone, like an XDA II. I believe you can get Sprint service with the XDA...I know there are several Palm OS phones that can get Sprint service.
This is the real Alex.

I must admit, pretty new to the whole wireless deal. Not new to the tech, just the devices that are available now.

Not sure if theres any Asus A620 users here but would device work? Seems to be a phone/wireless net in one bundle that connects to a Compact Flash slot.. Im assuming for the phone it uses your PocketPC's mic and speaker.

As of right now, there are tons more emulators, and games for the PPC than the Zodiac (I don't count crappy old POS 3, 4 games)

Emulation wise, you can't beat any of the Asus devices.

Is the problem that you can'tf ind a serial cable for your cell phone? You can get a ppc -> serial cable -> cell phone cable -> cell phone setup going

No reason that CF card shouldn't work, except for the fact it doesn't list PocketPC 2003 support.
holy internets batman.

PPC Phone or PPC

Postby saurabh » Mar 31, 2004 @ 11:13am

You need a PPC Phone which will take care of your phone calls and also your gaming needs, but ....but its expensive than an Asus, so if you go for an Asus you can use a Wifi to browse through an access point ( Iam sure they must be having one, whereever you work) and online gaming.
