The reason boxers don't inflict as much damage as they can is because they flex too much, which transfers the kinetic energy to their torso and not to their hands. If you let you hand and arms go really limp and just fling them around then you can kill someone with a blow to the side of the head with your knuckle with ease, because all of the kinetic energy is released in a centrifugal motion which increases the force.
It all depends on what you're aiming to do to the person, though. Not every fighting style is appropriate for every fight.
I would really love to join a fight club and just get into fist fights. I should petition my school to start a fist fighting P.E. class.
